Amnesia Is a loss of memory and or collection of events, and or a struggle to hold onto new memories
Amnesia can range in intensityThere are two main kinds of amnesia
Retrograde amnesia - the struggle to recall past memories and events.
anterograde amnesia - the struggle to create and store new memories, but still may remember past memories. There are other smaller subtypes of amnesia such as
Black out amnesia - the complete loss of a memory and or collection of events
gray out amnesia - partial or blurry memories, one may have smaller gaps, or feel like the memory has a faded blur over it
emotional amnesia - when someone remembers an event, but can't recall their own feelings towards the memory, they might feel disconnected to it, like the memory isn't their own, or like they're watching a TV show through their memories
Subsystems are a type of inner structure that happens in DID where multiple alters have some sort of deep connection to eachother
There are 2 main types of subsystems and 4 community made termsType 1 - separate internal groups within one larger system. In this case, two or more groups of alters might have developed separately, and they may or may not be aware of the other group(s). While groups may have good communication and co-consciousness among themselves
type 2 - an alter that has alters, they may or may not have good communication with eachotherthese are community made terms
Type 1 - an alter with alters
Type 2 - a subsystem where parts have access to spaces in the headspace that others can not, alters may be able to go in and out of this space or not, and they may have better communication with each other then any outside alters
Type 3 - alters who split off from one alter, they may have connections to each other because of this and create a subsystem out of fragments that once used to be one alter
Type 4 - a subsystem where alters have intense connections to each other whether directly or indirectly, these alters may have better communication
Subsystems are unfortunately a very underresearched aspect of DID
A community made term for a DID system that may have complex fusing and or splitting patterns, a large fragment count and subsystemsPolyfragmentation is commonly misunderstood as having 100+ alters, while entirely possible and common in polyfragmentation, having 100+ alters does not automatically mean polyfragmentation, nor does every single polyfrag system have 100+ altersThe term is somewhat in between medically recognized and community made
Introjects are alters that take on identifiable traits from people, media and or things around them
Introjection has no limits, you can introject anything!
Introjection is not exclusive to systems either, everyone introjects some way or another throughout life. This introjection may appear interestingly in systems however, the brain usually introjects those traits onto a single alter instead of the collective due to the fragmented identityNon-introjects are usually refered to as "brainmade" though many find that term useless as all alters must take on traits of something in the first placeIntrojects may have different source attachments, for the most part it is good to balance your attachment to your source, it can be unhealthy to heavily see yourself as literally your source, having a healthy amount of source separation can simply be acknowledging that you are still your own person outside of what you have introjected. This being said, forcing an alter to source separate can also cause harm, especially if the alter is stuck in delusions, its best to help them find their own identity with kind nudges instead of being rude or dismissive of their current identity.Types of introjection include but not limited tofictive - an alter that introjects traits of a fictional characterFactive - an alter that introjects traits of a real person, whether someone they know in real life or a celebrity, ectsongtive / musictive - an alter that introjects traits of a song, a music artist or genreConceptive - an alter that introjects traits of a concept such as an aesthetic, place or objectPlushtive - an alter that introjects traits of a stuffed animal / plushieAlters can have more then 1 source! There is no limit
Introjects are not literally their source, treat all alters like normal beings, they are still beings with emotions and thoughts for themselves.
Introjects are not a special type of alter, they are not "rarer then brainmades" as the brain initially cannot create something we have never seen before. This is probably one of the biggest spreaded misinformation on CDD's I've ever seen and it doesn’t take forever to realize there ultimately is barely any difference between these types of alters
Alters can take on many different kinds of inner appearance and nature, nonhuman alters are alters that are either not human at all or somewhat nonhuman. This can go hand in hand with alterhumanity but doesn't have to.Nonhuman alters can also reflect certain trauma in some casesNonhuman alters are common in cases of childhood sexual abuse and dehumanization trauma.
It's always important to treat nonhuman alters the same you would with any other unless otherwise requested, everyone has different rules and boundaries, don't be afraid to ask!
Alters can take on many different kinds of inner appearance and nature, system littles or also known as syskids are alters who may have traits of that of a childs such as inner appearance, voice, mannerisms and or maturity. This can go hand in hand with age regression (a coping mechanism when one reverts to the mindset of a child) but doesn't have to.Alters can also take on traits of any other age range aswell.
It's always important to not infantalize someone's syskids unless requested, everyone has different rules and boundaries, don't be afraid to ask!an alters age is not literal, body age is more important and comes first before anything.
System accountability is the act of being able to take accountability for when another alter does something bad. Alters are not literally different people, they are all parts of a whole and a system as a whole needs to be responsible for the actions of their alters
Endos, short for endogenic systems are systems who claim to have DID/osdd without trauma.
The term was made to be an opposite to "traumagenic system" Trauma is the cause for a persons states of identity to become dissociated so badly they put up amnesia barriers to form these alters. Endos have little to no credible research, but even if endos experience is real their experience is entirely different from that of a CDD system and the 2 communities need more separation. The idea of endogenic CDDs can cause people to not seek help for possible hidden trauma or install the belief their trauma wasn't "bad enough" to cause a traumagenic CDD, "mixed orgin" further installs this idea by perpetuating that one's trauma couldn't be "enough"Some people claim that endos don't claim DID but still use system medical terms, barge into disordered communities and cry victim when they aren't welcomed, and the term endogenic is still deeply rooted in the system community because of its coined purposeThe endo community is also notorious for comparing DID/osdd, a trauma disorder to the queer community. This is not only harmful to the DID/osdd communities because it dismisses it as a disordered experience but also is comparing queerness to a disorder. Many including myself agree that if endos had an entirely new name, their own communities and terms then they wouldn't be hurting anyoneIt's also very possible many "endos" have trauma and are a system that just don't remember it because of amnesia, a key criteria in DID.This whole endo thing can be summed up with that it's basically saying you have ptsd without the trauma
That being said it is not okay to go out of your way to harass anyone who claims endogenic DID/osdd. Education can happen without harrassment!
